Partners in Scholarship...
Onondaga Community College and IBEW/NECA are proud to announce
a new partnership which will create student scholarships and
improve athletic and cultural experiences for students,
faculty, staff and visitors.
Together, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW),
Local 43, and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA),
Finger Lakes Chapter, are giving the College a generous gift totaling
$350,000, which will be used to add additional funds to the existing
“IBEW/NECA Community Scholars Scholarship.” The IBEW/NECA Scholarship
is part of the College’s Community Scholars program, which awards up to
$1,000 in scholarship money to incoming high school graduates, adult
learners, and former Onondaga students who did not complete their
degree but are within 15 credits of completion.
In addition, the fit from IBEW/NECA supports the SRC Arena and Events Center,
which serves students and community members by providing a variety of sports,
cultural events, and community events.
“IBEW/NECA has shown itself to be highly committed to our students, the College,
and the entire Central New York community,” says John Zacharek, Vice
President for Development at Onondaga Community College. “Their support
will allows us to create new scholarship opportunities for students who
need it most, as well as continue to enhance the overall student
experience through the numerous athletic, community and cultural
events on campus at the SRC arena and Events Center.”
“We’re very excited to broaden our support for student success at Onondaga Community College,”
says Don Morgan, Business Manager, IBEW Local 43. “Partnering with Onondaga
provides additional arts and educational opportunities not only for our
members but the entire community. We have been impressed with the
growth at the College, and we are very proud to be its partner in
bringing quality education to Central New York.”
IBEW/NECA represents more than 1,200 hard working men and women and more than 60 signatory
employers throughout Central New York, its members work cooperatively with various
youth organizations, such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and
they contribute generously of their time and money to international, national,
and local charitable, educational, health and emergency relief causes.
“IBEW/NECA is extremely proud of our reputation for excellence in the
electrical industry. The pride and workmanship of our skilled craftsmen
is evident in every project we’re a part of,” said Morgan. “Supporting
students at Onondaga Community College is just another way for us to help
improve the quality of life in Central New York.”
