Brothers and Sisters,

It is with deep regret and sorrow that we tragically lost our Local 43 family member, Brother Peter Clark to an electrical work site accident on May 15th.

Considering the accident, I am asking NECA and our signatory contractors to stop and take a moment on their jobsites to discuss how important electrical safety is on our construction sites. I am also asking our Training Director to carry the conversation with all our apprentices, construction wiremen & construction electricians.

Brothers & Sisters your safety is paramount on the jobsite. Always be mindful and alert of your working environment.

I want to offer my deepest sympathy to Brother Peter Clark’s family, friends, and co-workers who could not have prepared for their sudden loss. I ask all of you to keep Brother Clark in your thoughts and prayers.

Fraternally,
Alan Marzullo

NEWS FROM THE FUNDS OFFICE

Helping Children Cope

Children and teens react, in part, on what they see from the adults around them. When parents and caregivers deal with the COVID-19 calmly and confidently, they can provide the best support for their children. Parents can be more reassuring to others around them, especially children, if they are better prepared.

Watch for behavior changes in your child

Not all children and teens respond to stress in the same way. Some common changes to watch for include:

Excessive crying or irritation in younger children.
  • Returning to behaviors they have outgrown (for example, toileting accidents or bed wetting).
  • Excessive worry or sadness.
  • Unhealthy eating or sleeping habits.
  • Irritability and “acting out” behaviors in teens.
  • Poor school performance or avoiding school.
  • Difficulty with attention and concentration.
  • Avoidance of activities enjoyed in the past.
  • Unexplained headaches or body pain.
  • Use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs.
    Ways to support your child
  • Talk with your child or teen about the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Answer questions and share facts about COVID-19 in a way that your child or teen can understand.
  • Unhealthy eating or sleeping habits.Reassure your child or teen that they are safe. Let them know it is ok if they feel upset. Share with them how you deal with your own stress so that they can learn how to cope from you.
  • Limit your family’s exposure to news coverage of the event, including social media. Children may misinterpret what they hear and can be frightened about something they do not understand.
  • Try to keep up with regular routines. If schools are closed, create a schedule for learning activities and relaxing or fun activities.
  • Be a role model. Take breaks, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and eat well. Connect with your friends and family members.

  • Learn more about caring for children during the COVID-19 outbreak and helping children cope with emergencies. Page last reviewed: May 15, 2020 Content source: National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Division of Viral Diseases

“What If” Pension Calculations coming to the Member Portal Web Portals

Within the next few weeks a new feature will be available on the IBEW 43 Member Portal within the Pension section. Members will have the ability to estimate current pension benefit values and forecast future pension benefits based upon your age at retirement and an estimated additional years and months worked.

A new “Benefit Calculation” option will be available in the portal’s pension section. Based upon your age, you will be able to estimate your pension benefit based upon “Today’s Date” the future dates of Ages 55, 62 and 65. The estimation system will allow you to enter the number of years you anticipate to work before retirement along with an estimated average number of hours worked per year. The portal will produce a PDF file for your reference and keep a copy of the PDF online for your future reference.

Free, Confidential Counseling Services provided by Mental Health Professionals are available either in-person or over the phone. We encourage you and your eligible family members to take advantage of this benefit whenever you feel that life is getting too stressful.
