Important Reminder – Beneficiary Forms

Have you reviewed your beneficiary designation recently? Life events such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, or the loss of a loved one may mean it's time to update your beneficiary form. Keeping this information current helps ensure your benefits are distributed according to your wishes. To view your current beneficiaries, login to your IBEW 43 Member Benefit Portal. To update your beneficiaries, once logged in, visit Participant Resources > More and look under General Forms for the Welfare, Pension and Annuity Beneficiary Forms. You may also call the Fund Office for assistance at 315-474-5729.


Did You Know? Retiree Health Benefits & Dependent Children

Effective July 1, 2026, Retirees enrolled in this Plan’s medical coverage or this Plan’s Medicare Advantage Plan may enroll their eligible Dependent Children. Dependent Child Coverage may start as of July 1, 2026 for Retirees enrolled in coverage as of that date so long as any requested application materials are submitted prior to July 1, 2026. Otherwise, the Plan’s general initial and open enrollment guidelines will apply to this Dependent Child Coverage. The Fund Office will supply you information concerning the current monthly premium for retiree coverage.

The IBEW Local No. 43 & Electrical Contractors Welfare Fund Trustees are pleased to announce a new hearing benefit available to eligible participants through Amplifon Hearing Health Care effective July 1, 2026.


Eligible participants will have access to:

  • Hearing examinations with no copayment
  • Discounts on hearing aids through the Amplifon provider network
  • A $500 per ear allowance toward hearing aids once every three years
  • And either a charging station or a two-year supply of batteries at no additional cost

TRAINING CENTER NEWS

The CNY ETA is pleased to announce the appointment of Alicia Michalski as the Training Center’s new Training Director and to welcome Ronald Roberts to the instructional team as our newest instructor.

The CNY ETA extends its sincere congratulations to Jon Reitz on successfully completing the Electrical Training Alliance’s four-year National Training Institute Instructor Training Program.

CNYETA will be holding the following CPR/First Aid trainings

  • 1-day class for both CPR/First Aid training onSaturday August 22nd from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • 2-day CPR/First Aid class on Tuesday August 25th and Wednesday August 26th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  • IBEW LU 43 Journeyman:
    A NFPA 70E Course is available at the Training Center. This course will cover topics such as various electrical hazards, the injuries they can cause, and safe electrical work practices and maintenance requirements like Lock-Out/Tag-Out.   • IBEW LU 43 Journeyman:
    An Electric Vehicle Charging Systems (EVCS) Course is available at the Training Center. The course will cover topics such as electric vehicles, advanced Code Calculations, site assessments, and troubleshooting. The EVCS Course will be a hybrid course, partially in the classroom and online individual instruction on our worldwide Computer Mediated Learning System (CML). Ernest W. Kuhn, passed away on July 30, 2026 at age 89. Brother Kuhn was initiated into Local 43 in 1961. He was an IBEW member for 65 years.

KNOW THE NYS STATE SAFE
AND SICK LEAVE LAW

Be aware that all private sector workers in NYS are now covered under the state's new sick and safe leave law, regardless of industry, occupation, part-time status, overtime exempt status, and seasonal status.

The law requires employers with five or more employees to provide employees with paid sick leave and safe leave.

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) has notified all signatory contractor's of their obligation under this law. We will continue to work with our contractor's regarding this responsibility.

KEY DATES

  • September 30, 2020: Covered employees in NYS will start to accrue leave at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked.
  • January 1, 2021: Employees may start using accrued leave.

AMOUNT OF LEAVE

  • Employees will receive an amount of sick leave depending on the size of their employer.

# OF EMPLOYEES, EMPLOYER SICK LEAVE REQUIREMENTS

0-4 --- If net income is $1 Million or less in the previous tax year, the employer is required to provide up to 40 hours of unpaid sick leave per calendar year.

0-4 --- If new income is $1 Million or less in the previous tax year, the employer is required to provide up to 40 hours of unpaid sick leave per calendar year.

5-99 --- Up to 40 hours of unpaid sick leave per calendar year. 100+ --- Up to 56 hours of unpaid sick leave per calendar year.

2026 Quarterly Dues Payment Effective January 1, 2026

The following rates will apply for dues payments covering January 2026 through December 2026.

Effective January 1,2026 through June 30, 2026 the quarterly dues are $142.50 per quarter.

REMINDER -  A $30.00 Reinstatement Fee will be added if your dues are not paid before the end of each quarter.

Dues Payment Alert

The IBEW International Office will no longer accept dues payments that have a reinstatement activity unless they are paid through the current quarter.

This means that if you wish to pay your dues this month and you are currently one or more quarters in arrears, you will need to pay all overdue quarters and the current quarter along with the reinstatement fee to bring your account up-to-date.
